Distilleria Romano Levi

Nel 1925 Serafino Levi, father of Lidia and Romano, recovering a tradition belonged to the family since the XVII century, settled in Neive his own distillery. The untimely death of the mother in 1945 pushed the seventeen years old Romano, already fatherless, to quit his studies to dedicate himself to the conduction of the distillery with the sister. He learnt the use of the direct-fire still, a traditional but challenging method of distillation. Today the distillation is still effected trough a direct-fire copper batch distiller, the only one in the wordl still in activity.
The fame of the distillery is linked to the name of Romano Levi, passed way in 2008, and to his handmade labels, enriched with poetic quotes and naif designs, better known as “Arte Selvatica” (Wild Art).
