Abellonio Roberto | Cascina Piccaluga
Strada Argantino 76, 12051 Località Altavilla, Alba (CN)
The story of Cascina Piccaluga (from the Ligurian dialect “take the grapes”) has beginning in the late 1800s, when a doctor from Genova bought some land in Altavilla, in the hill between Treiso and Barbaresco, building a farmhouse on the top. At the beginnings of XX century, Carlo Abellonio worked first as a sharecropper and then as an owner, planting the first vineyards of Dolcetto and Nebbiolo. In 1996 the cellar passed into the hands of Roberto Abellonio, who following in the footsteps of the great-grandfather, promoted a major business transformation, through the increase of the planted area, the expansion of production and of the range of cultivated grapes and wines produced. Cascina Piccaluga now has about 10 hectares of vineyards, most of which are sites in Alba in Altavilla, Treiso, Barbaresco and Santo Stefano Belbo. The environmental sustainability guides the company’s choices in the vineyard and in the cellar.
